After a second viewing I decided this was the one. After negotiating I managed to buy Puffin within budget. The brakes were still out of action and the tyres needed replacing but I was determined to get the boat home before Christmas. The boat was also not sitting forward enough to give any noise weight on the trailer drawbar so I had the first opportunity to experience how not to load a trailer. But I quickly learnt the essentials, like keeping the speed under 40mph to avoid snaking and putting into place an ample forward planning exercise every time I wanted to apply the brakes. Leaving a huge gap between myself and the vehicle in front became the norm for the duration of the journey, which from Ipswich to Crewe took over 10 hours. But it was all worth it.
